In celebration of Earth Day on April 22nd, Mr. Smith, with the help of our customers and salon partners, will be supporting EARTHDAY.ORG’s The Canopy Project to reforest over 10,000 trees in Madagascar.
What is Earth Day?
Each year on April 22nd, Earth Day is marked by more than a billion people as a day of action to change human behaviour and create global, national and local policy changes. Earth Day is all about empowering individuals and communities with the information and tools needed to make an impact and drive change.
Who are EARTHDAY.ORG?
EARTHDAY.ORG is fighting globally for a safe and sustainable environment for all. Their mission is to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide. Since the first Earth Day in 1970, EARTHDAY.ORG is the world’s largest recruiter for the environmental movement, working with more than 75,000 partners in over 190 countries to drive positive action for our planet.
What is The Canopy Project?
EARTHDAY.ORG’s The Canopy Project plants trees around the globe to improve our shared environment. Since 2010, EARTHDAY.ORG has planted tens of millions of trees with The Canopy Project, working worldwide to strengthen communities.
EARTHDAY.ORG works with global partners to reforest areas that are in need of rehabilitation, including areas with some of the world’s communities that are most at-risk from climate change and environmental degradation.
How does reforestation help the planet?
Since the beginning of the 20th century the planet has lost about 20% of its forests. Replanting trees helps take CO2 out of the atmosphere, improves natural habitat for animals and ecological services for humans.
Responsible reforestation can stabilise land from erosion and natural disasters, improve soil health, promote native fauna and provide economic development for nearby communities.
How does The Canopy Project support local communities?
The Canopy Project employs a holistic, community-facing approach to reforestation. They work with local tree planting partners who directly engage the community members to promote agroforestry best practices, environmental literacy, and economic empowerment as healthy forest ecosystems directly benefit the health and sustainable growth of villages.
